A family cat has saved a young boy from a vicious dog attack after the canine pulled the child off his bike and started tearing at his legs.
The boy was playing on his bike on a driveway in Bakersfield, California, when the dog lunged at his leg, grabbed hold of it with its jaws and dragged him off the bike.
The cat came to the rescue, hurling himself at the dog, spooking it and chasing it away before a woman ran to the boy’s aid.
The boy’s father Roger Triantafilo, who posted the video online, wrote that his son had recovered from the attack.
“Thankfully, it wasn’t worse,” he wrote in the video, which shows graphic images of the boys’ wounds.
“My son is fine.”
Local police said the attacking dog, identified as an 8-month-old labrador-chow mix, had been surrendered by its owner’s family after the Tuesday afternoon attack.
The dog was in quarantine and was expected to be put down.
Police spokesman Sergeant Joseph Grubbs said the dog’s owners, who lived in the same neighbourhood as the boy, said the dog did not like children or bicycles.
Police did not identify the dog’s owner by name.
