THE SHAME, guilt and ecstasy experienced by compulsive eaters has been laid bare in a provocative set of paintings.
New York artist Lee Price has revealed her own struggles with an eating disorder in her Woman and Food series which depicts her binge eating, usually in the bathtub or in bed, on “forbidden” foods.
The 47-year-old, who is both artist and subject in this work, set out to illustrate — through the stirring self-portraits — how women eat in response to feelings and to fill voids other than physical hunger.
“I think that more and more women and men have an unhealthy relationship with food,” she told News Corp Australia.
